Blanket Fort Birthday

Here are a few snippets from my Blanket Fort Birthday. Bill and I spent our Saturday turning our entire living room (and half of the bedroom) into a giant blanket fort. Using only rope, binder clips and eye-hooks we constructed a frame and draped the walls to form our tent. It worked out quite nicely, I think it is going to be semi-permanent fixture of our home.
"We spent our whole lives being told that blanket forts are
only for special occasions like sleep-overs
and when uncles die. That's a lie, Annie.
You can live in a fort of blankets all day, every night."

Thanks to my lovely friends for coming over to cuddle and celebrate in the fort!

Sarah Freeman Art

I am so blown away by my friend Sarah Freeman. She is an amazing artist
who is well-versed and talented in a variety of mediums. (She also has the coolest signature ever).
It is her still-life oil paintings that I am currently captivated by. Beauty and
simplicity.
Sarah has a gallery opening this Saturday (tomorrow) in Culver City at the Maxwell Alexander Gallery on Washington Blvd. The show is entitled Still, Life and Land. And it's even more exciting because Sarah is flying in from Santa Fe for the show! So happy for her...

el matador

I am in love with my book - Peaceful Places: Los Angeles. So many excellent gems to escape to all in the city limits. Sometimes living/driving in such a populated city can be a little headachey, but this book is full of places to find relaxation and solitude.
- el matador beach -
For someone who lives so close to the ocean, the beach is not really my thing. The overcrowding and paying $6-$8 to park usually keep me away... Even if I do make it down, by the time I get settled in the cold and foggy marine layer is as well. I will say that El Matador in Malibu was a welcome departure from the typical beaches of Santa Monica bay. Still $8 to park, but there are many rock formations and small caves covered in barnacles to explore, it is well worth the fee.
